10 Justifications for the Benefits of Belief in a Christian God

- NO WORRIES It’s comforting to know that we can give God all of our worries and concerns. 1 Peter 5 6-7 says, “Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God so that he can raise you up when the time is right. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Knowing that God is always taking care of business and we don’t need to worry is a huge relief.
- SEE BENEATH THE SKIN We don’t have to worry about our appearance if we believe in God. There is no need to worry about our outward appearance because as 1 Samuel 16.7 tells us: “… the The Lord looks at the heart, not the outward appearance, as opposed to how a man might see.” We improve and find happiness when we see people the way God does, or in other words, by what’s in their hearts.
- NO NEED TO GOSSIP There are many opportunities for defamation and criticism on social media. James gives good advice on this (4:11-12): “Do not disparage your siblings, brothers, or parents. Anyone who criticizes a sibling or brother or judges them is criticizing the law. You are not upholding the law when you judge it; rather, you are passing judgment on it. One and the same is the Lawgiver and Judge, the one who has the power to both save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?” To put it another way, we are not in a position to criticize.
- HAVE FAITH When we believe in God, we have faith, and faith brings salvation; see Ephesians 2:8-9: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.” What does this actually mean? It implies that having faith in God is a gift, not something we must earn. Furthermore, faith is its own reward because it frees us from pointless goals and endeavors, helps us to identify what really matters, and purges our minds of evil thoughts.
- STAY HEALTHY WITHOUT HAVING TO DIET We need not be concerned about our diets if we believe in God. Exodus 23.25 says, “If you worship the Lord, your God, he will bless your food and water.”
- BE STRONG WHEN YOUR HEART IS BROKEN Read Psalm 147.3 which says, “He binds up their wounds and restores brokenhearted people.” One of the most difficult trials we face is attempting to move past the death of a loved one or the separation from them. God’s presence makes the journey much simpler.
- YOU CAN STAY IN GOOD PHYSICAL SHAPE ALWAYS Exodus 15.26 “I am the God who makes you well.” Through prayer and meditation, Christians anticipate good health. You can only test it out to see if it works.
- YOU NEVER HAVE TO ASK “WHY AM I HERE?” When we trust in God, we can stop asking meaningless existential questions. We see and experience the fruit of His plan for our lives. Psalm 57:2 says, “I pray to the Most High God, asking him to fulfill his plan for my life.” It all comes down to this: if we choose everything with God in mind, He will use us to accomplish his purposes. There’s no need to worry about wasted days because everything we do has value in God’s eyes.
- YOU DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT DYING Ecclesiastes 12.7 says about death “Then, the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will go back to the God who gave it.” Knowing that we are eternal spirits, that our time here on earth is only temporary, and that our future will be spent in eternities of glory is such a consoling thought.
- YOU DON’T HAVE TO WASTE TIME WONDERING WHERE THE UNIVERSE CAME FROM “God made the earth and the heavens in the beginning.” (This is all we need to know about how our environment came to be (Genesis 1:1). Of course, God also created us, so what’s not to like?
