But many of us find silence uncomfortable, particularly when it causes our minds to wander and divert us. In order to meditate in higher states of consciousness, you must first learn to be at ease in silence. To do this, practice sitting quietly in your mind, body, and spirit.

3. Find a Sustainable Posture

When I’m instructing students in meditation, I frequently notice that their posture is the most likely to throw a wrench in the works and divert their attention. Even the most beautiful meditation can be interrupted by pins and needles in the legs or an aching back due to poor posture. Therefore, before you start, think about how long you plan to meditate for and check that your posture is appropriate for it in addition to being in perfect order. You might eventually fall asleep if you meditate for a long time while lying down!

4. Rehearse, practice, practice.

Like all other disciplines, meditation requires practice to become proficient. You might have an odd experience where you enter previously undiscovered states of consciousness, but in order to return from this point forward, you must attend your sessions consistently.
